The green opened on time today at 12 noon: a cool, rather grey day given the weather we've enjoyed over the past couple of weeks - but at least the dark clouds didn't come to anything. And that warm, sunny weather has allowed us to open on time this year, in stark contrast to last year when a very wet spring pushed the start of the season significantly back.

As you can see from the pictures, the green and the surrounds are looking in great shape - thanks to the dedicated work over the winter of Evan, Liz, Steve and Phil.

President Steve Baker had the honour of bowling the first wood of the new season - and also the honour of making the tea: the traditional prize given to the first player to touch the jack in the new season. He was quickly joined on the green by Sue Milton, Rob and Nicki Furness, and Cynthia and David Hamilton. We're also expecting a strong contingent of bowlers this afternoon.

May the season be long and may the sun shine brightly on all those who step on the green.
