Dave Taplin triumphs in the Sid Butler Trophy

Yesterday, on (yet) another hot summer Sunday afternoon at Vigo Park, saw Dave Taplin emerge victorious in the Sid Butler Trophy - the club's one=day competition for men bowlers.

Nine men took part in the day - an ideal number from an organisation point of view as each entrant was kept continually busy either playing or marking! Each one had four six-end games in qualifying, with Tim Poynter coming out on top with the highest number of points, ahead of Dave Taplin, Michael Hopkins and Andrew Carnegie, all progressing straight to the semi-finals, again of six ends. Both were close games but Dave and Andrew had enough to see off their opponents and go through to the final.

A thoroughly absorbing, tight game featuring some top quality bowls saw Andrew emerge with a one-shot end in the sixth end to tie the game at 4-4 and require an extra end, which Dave won to take home the Trophy. Very well done, Dave: and well done Andy for making the final a game for the ages.
