Six triples gathered at a sunny but somewhat blustery Vigo Park this mornng for the Club's annual triples tournament and in competition for the Drummond-Wolf Cup. Entrants were drawn by Cynthia Hamilton, Competition Secretary, into teams mixing more and less experienced players.

In matches which all featured just six ends of spirited play, each side was drawn against three others, the best four performing sides going into the semi-finals followed by a final.

In the first semi-final, team A3, skipped by Rob Furniss and also featuring David Hamilton and Cathy Hopwood quickly built a platform and eventually proved too strong for team A4, skipped by Dave Taplin and also featuring Tracy Howard and Jilly Ross (match score: 10-2); while in semi-final 2, Linda Sturt skipped her team (A6) of Gill Roberts (lead) and Dave Godfrey (No. 2) to success over team A5, skipped by Dave Bradbury with Meg Baker as lead and Caroline Mills as No. 2 (match score: 6-5, decided by a measure on the last end).

The final was competitive, both sides demonstrating a keen will to win, and also contained some top quality bowling. Ultimately winning 5-2, it was Rob's team that proved triumphant over Linda's - but sincere congratulations to both for their stamina and sustained concentration over 30 ends of bowls during the course of the day, as well as.to the other semi-finalists and also the two remaining teams who didn't make it further into the day.

It was also something of a double celebration for Cathy, who also won the spider (and for the very first time).

Steve Baker, Club President, ended the prize-giving presentation with a vote of thanks to Cynthia for organising the day; and indeed, we are all very grateful to you, Cynthia.

*An earier version of this report confused Dave Godfrey with Dave Canniford - sincere apologies to both*
