Five useful tips to bowling better:
1. Stand behind the mat and visualise the shot you are going to play. Get it clear in your mind.
2. Pick an aiming spot – either a couple of metres in front of the mat on the line you want to bowl over, or on the far end of the rink that you want to bowl towards.
3. Now step on the mat and angle your feet towards the line on which you intend to deliver your bowl.
4. Deliver your bowl by putting your front foot forward parallel to the line of your aiming point and swing your arm directly along the line to your aiming point.
5. The closer you release your bowl to the green the more consistent will be your line and length. DO NOT ‘bounce’ the bowl as this will make its line and length inconsistent and may damage the green. (If you have difficultly releasing your bowl close to the greens surface there are bowling aids that can help you with this; ask any experienced bowler).
