Bowlathon

Andover Bowling Club's first ever Bowlathon, to be held in support of funds for the new Clubhouse and for the Countess of Brecknock Hospice, takes place from noon on 23 May until noon on 24 May.

Brad Godden - one of our members - has announced his intention to bowl for the full 24 hours; and a number of other members of the Club will be turning out throughout the day and night both to support him and to give him some competition. The format for the bowlathon will be one triples matches with the participants divided into skip, 2nd and lead roles for Team A and Team B; with the scoring and the ends to roll forward right throughout the whole 24 hours. Participants have already been allocated a 2 or a 4-hour slot and, if you have not confirmed your place on the team, or would still like to play, do let Mick Corden know and he may be able to accommodate you. Glen Peters, one of our members, has drawn up a risk assessment which all participants are encouraged to read - you will find this in the links at the bottom of the page.

The incoming Mayor of Andover, Cllr Linda Lashbrook, will be delivering the first bowl to start the event, accompanied by her Consort, Cllr Philip Lashbrook.

In addition. we are organising a variety of activities to take place on and around the green from noon until 6pm on 23 May. These will include a number of bowls-related fun competitions, as well as a tombola, cake stall, a plant stall, name the teddy, guess the number of sweets in the jar, refreshments, etc.

We are determined to make this a success and to raise as much money as we can; and we hope that you will see plenty of references to it in the media in the coming weeks!

Another of our members, Tracy Howard, who is organising the activities for the day, appeared on That's TV Hampshire on Tuesday 28 April to discuss the event.

What you can do:

* come along on the day with your family, and invite your friends and neighbours! The more people we get on the day, the more successful our efforts will turn out to be.

* if you can, let us have a tombola prize (or two!)

* download the artwork below and place it in your window

* if you have good contacts with local businesses, trades people (boiler service engineers, etc), shops and salons around the town that might be willing to help with a cash donation and/or a tombola prize, let us know their names - we'll do the rest! It always helps if we can make a direct approach where the contact is a little warmer. Equally, if you are in work, if the company you work for has a publicity department, or provides matching sponsorship for individual employee efforts, do let us know

* if you have religious contacts, ask them to intercede on our behalf and pray for a fine, dry and warm day. And night.
