National and County Competitions

Sue, Cynthia and Jackie after receiving their National Badges at Leamington this year.

Cynthia Hamilton, Sue Milton and Jackie Kingston's County triple team won all their county games this season and made it to Leamington to play for Hampshire in the National Finals which is very good going. Congratulations to them all, a great achievement and this is possibly the first time that our club has got this far in the competition.

Seventeen of us went up to Leamington in a mini bus, and we have to thank Cindy McLaughlin for driving so well. We all had a wonderful day, the weather was perfect for watching some fantastic bowling. As well as trade stands, where there iseverything you could possibly need for bowling, there were opportunities to try out new woods on the Leamington greens.

County Badges - Sue Milton and Robin Kingston have been awarded their County Badges this year, following on from last year when Cynthia Hamiliton and Jackie Kingston both received theirs.

Thornbery - The ladies won their way through to the final which was held at Banister Park and lost by one shot. Our best achievement so far in this competition.

Open Day - Saturday 30th April 2016

Open Day - TVBC Councillor's Grant Cheque Presentation

This year we had an excellent Open Day, and have welcomed 23 new members, which is really bucking the national trend with many clubs struggling to keep their membership numbers up.

The weather was kind and our coaches, Keith and Lesley Taylor, and all helpers were kept busy the whole time with many visitors wanting to try bowling for themselves. It was a very successful day and we signed up quite a few new members on the day, an excellent start to the season. Quite a few of these were ladies which is really good news for us as there are never enough ladies playing.

Iris Anderson, The Mayor of Test Valley, who is also one of our St Mary's Ward Councillors, together with John Cockaday and David Denny arrived to present the Club with a cheque for 862.00 from the TVBC Councillors' Community Grant Scheme. This has enabled us to purchase some much needed new equipment to help new members learn about the game and try things out for themselves.

Last Year

Andover Ladies won the Basingstoke and District Tuesday League Trophy, this will be the fourth time in the last five years so a very good effort; they were runners up in the Salisbury and District Triples knock-out competition and finished mid-table in the Salisbury and District Ladies.

Chris Sutton, James Freino and Jim Horne did well to get through to the final of the Basingstoke & District two woods triples but they lost at Oakley 20-16 on the Finals day.
