Mobility and welfare

If you use a wheelchair to assist your mobility, we have a specially adapted wheelchair - the Bowls Royce - with arm rests that rotate to help you deliver your bowls; and with wide wheels that don’t damage the green.

Secured by donations from Test Valley Community Fund (£400) and the Sofa Club (£450), to both of which we are extremely grateful, the wheelchair was added to our offer in 2024.

More broadly, the Club offers spaces for people to bowl on a mixed basis – one of the beauties of the game is that men and women can participate on an equal basis in games against each other, with neither the one nor the other having an inbuilt advantage. If men or women are looking for spaces to play only against other men or other women, we offer that, too.

To assist our work, we have a number of policies in place which aim to realise our ambition to be an inclusive and welcoming bowls club, at which members can play the game in an environment that is both supportive and positive. Two members of our Committee – Dave Corbett and Michelle Hawkins – are our appointed welfare officers responsible for safeguarding members while playing bowls.
